Someone Let Tiger Out to Play Again!
The 14-time major-tournament winner
hasn’t played in almost four months during a
self-imposed exile that included an admission of
marital infidelity and Tiger Woods hasn’t missed the
Masters since he was an amateur in 1995.
The last time Woods took a long layoff from the game
is when his father, Earl, died in 2006. Woods
returned to the 2006 US Open, but missed the cut
after consecutive 76s.
The Masters holds a special place in Woods’ heart
since that is where he won his first major. Tiger
has quite the Masters history, winning the event
four times, including 1997, 2001, 2002 and as
recently as 2005. At 89 professional wins and
counting, nobody will question him being the
favorite to win this year’s Masters, as he looks to
go home with his 5th green jacket.
Plus since he is going after Jack Nicklaus’ record
of 18 career majors, not many people thought he
could pass up a chance to add to his trophy case.
Woods last week was a 9-2 choice for the odds to win
the first of the season’s four majors.
This is a great golf tournament for Woods to make
his return since the fans are typically on their
best behavior, and the media presence is limited.
This should allow Woods to focus on golf as much as
possible and not the intense scrutiny that he will
be facing upon his return.
The Augusta National Golf Club
in Augusta, Georgia The
Masters Tournament, which is commonly referred to as
The Masters or The US Masters, is one of four major
championships in men's professional golf and the first
of the four to be played each year. Unlike the other
major championships, the Masters is held every year at
the same location, Augusta National Golf Club, a
private golf club in the city of Augusta, Georgia,
USA. The Masters was started by Clifford Roberts and
Bobby Jones, who designed Augusta National with
legendary course architect Alister MacKenzie.
Augusta National is an amazing golf course
and certainly has a mystique about it, as
even the richest and most prominent
businessmen in the country can’t get on this
course without a membership. The Augusta
National Golf Club limits the number of
golfers that participate in its Masters
championship event every year and only has
the best of the best playing for the chance
to wear the prestigious Masters green
jacket. Getting one of those memberships is
even harder, and lately this has generated
some controversy as
women’s groups have ripped the club and its
members for not having a female member.
The Masters Golf Green jacket
In addition to a cash award, the winner of the
tournament is presented with a distinctive green
jacket, awarded since 1949, and highly coveted among
professional golfers. The green coat is actually the
official coat worn by members of Augusta National
while on the club grounds; each Masters winner becomes
an honorary member of the club. Winners keep their
jacket for the first year after their first victory,
then return it to the club to wear during tournament
week each following year. The tradition that began in
1949, when Sam Snead was the winner. The Green Jacket
is only allowed to be removed from Augusta National by
the reigning champion, after which it must remain at
the club. The only exception to this rule is Gary
Player, who failed to return his jacket after his 1961
victory, despite the club's insistence that he do so.

2010 US Masters Golf Winner
Phil Mickelson
Phil Mickelson delights Augusta by overshadowing Tiger Woods. The US Masters got the champion it wanted. Phil Mickelson, devoted husband, loving father and antidote to that rampant individualist Tiger Woods.
The solemn rebuke passed down to Woods by the Augusta National chairman, Billy Payne, on the eve of the event was as astonishing as any shot hit around this Georgia Eden. After Mickelson walked up the 18th fairway, his blue-eyed countenance lit up by a smile as flawless as his scorecard, Augusta was able to tie a ribbon around the story and package its champion as Captain America, a Mills and Boon warrior safeguarding the wholesome Christian values so beloved of the game in this whitewashed enclave.
Mickelson has no control over the presentation of this epic spectacle as a parable for life. He is simply doing his job, playing golf, winning the tournament for himself. The embrace of wife Amy, a vision of stoic blondeness at the side of the 18th green

Kenny Perry seemed to have it in his grasp but
he contrived to bogie both 17 and 18 under
intense pressure to fall back into the play-off.
The Play-Off was a tense affair that first saw
Campbell get eliminated and then Perry to give
Angel Cabrera the famous Green Jacket in a
thrilling finish. Cabrera was solid all week and
