Formerly the Nissan Open,
the now-named Northern Trust Open is set to tee off the
week of Feb. 14-20 at historic Riviera Country Club in
Pacific Palisades. This is always one of the most
competitive tournaments on the calendar, and golf’s
finest will be on hand in 2011, looking to defeat last
years winner Steve Stricker.

The first Northern Trust Open takes place at Pacific
Palisades this February. The purse has been increased to
$6.5 million in commemoration of the changeover.

Dating back to 1889, Northern Trust’s partnership with the tournament in the setting of the Riviera Country Club is a natural. The Northern Trust Open is ready to continue the tradition of excellence by providing exciting PGA TOUR professional golf to the fans in Southern California and throughout the world.

Northern Trust Open Results

2011 Nissan Open winner

Aaron Baddeley wins 2011 Northern Trust Open by two shots. The 29-year-old Australian earns his first PGA Tour title since 2007, finishing two shots ahead of Vijay Singh. Fred Couples fades in the final round and ties for seventh place. But playing in the same group as Couples was a slightly built, 6-foot, shaggy-haired Australian who just dipped his head and let the Couples love have its say.

2010 Nissan Open winner

Steve Stricker came back to win the Northern Trust Open and secure his ranking of the number two player in the world. It was Stricker’s eighth tour victory and his fifth since 2007. Briton Luke Donald, who shot a 66, finished second while Dustin Johnson tied with J.B. Holmes for third, three strokes further back.

2009 Nissan Open winner

Phil Mickelson began the final round with a 4-stroke
lead, eagled the first hole, then had a run of
bogeys. He eventually lost the lead to Steve
Stricker, but Mickelson birdied the 70th and 71st
holes to reclaim the lead, then parred the last for
the win. Mickelson posted rounds of 63, 72, 62 and
72, 15-under total.

Phil Mickelson completed a
quest on Sunday at Riviera Country Club, reaching a goal
that was personal and professional. His unrequited love
affair with Riviera began when he first stepped inside the
ropes here 20 years ago as a skinny 17-year-old high school
golfer. Not until late Sunday afternoon, when he held aloft
the silver trophy after his two-stroke victory in the
Northern Trust Open, was it consummated. Finally, he had won
at Riviera.>
