It takes place on the island of Oahu at the Waialae Country Club. Past champions include Vijay Singh, Ernie Els and Jerry Kelly. The event raises money for local Hawaiian charities. The Waialae Golf Course

Waialae Golf Course is a par 72 Championship course with a total of 7,125 yards from the back tees. The golf course was designed by golf architect Seth Raynor, and officially opened for play on February 1, 1927. Since then, it has undergone several renovations. In 1999, the Sony Open golf course was again given a new look as PGA Tour enhancements were put in place specifically for the Sony Open. One significant change involved swapping the front and back nines, given the position of the sun during play.

2010 Sony Open Golf Results

Ryan Palmer Birdied the par-5 18th hole to edge Robert Allenby and win the Sony Open in Hawaii. Palmer made a 50-foot chip shot on the final hole that hit the pin and left him a tap-in for birdie and a one-shot victory over Robert Allenby in the Sony Open. The victory, the third of his career, came by leading or sharing the lead after every round.

2011 Sony Open Championship Winner

Mark Wilson finished at 16-under 264, played his final 40 holes without a bogey. That proved significant at a couple of points in the final round. He got into trouble on the eighth hole and was 150 yards out in the fairway playing his third shot, sure to lose some of his two-shot lead. But he stuffed it to 7 feet for par, then birdied the ninth to expand his lead to four. The victory, worth $990,000, was important to Wilson for a couple of reasons. He is in the last year of his exemption from winning in Mexico in 2009, and he is coming off a poor season in which he had only two top 10s.
